UPDATE: Date/time of SM City Council meeting
The Venice Neighborhood Council will host a forum to discuss the health and safety impacts of Santa Monica Airport (SMO) on Los Angeles residents, just three days before a crucial Santa Monica City Council vote, Councilmember Bill Rosendahl announced today.
The forum will be held Saturday, April 27, 2013, from 1:00-4:00 p.m., in the Gymnasium of the Penmar Park Recreation Center, Gymnasium, 1341 Lake St., in Venice.
Health and safety experts will discuss the effects of the airport’s flight operations so close to homes in neighboring Mar Vista and Venice. The forum will also feature research findings on pollution from lead, noise, and fine particulates. Rosendahl, Councilman-elect Mike Bonin, Congressman Henry Waxman, State Senator Ted Lieu, and other elected officials will also be on hand to share their position on closing SMO by 2015.
The forum comes three days before a Santa Monica City Council meeting that will devote its entire agenda to SMO issues, including consideration of increasing landing fees, repaving the runway, and the future of operations.
