City Council Recap

Here’s a recap of noteworthy agenda items and policy issues that the Los Angeles City Council heard on Friday, March 2, 2012.

Councilmembers Bill Rosendahl and Joe Buscaino introduced a motion that will provide a loan from the City’s Public Works Trust Fund for the Westchester Streetscape Improvements Project.

Rosendahl secured multiple funding sources for this sidewalk improvement project along Sepulveda Boulevard, including a grant from Congresswoman Maxine Waters and funds from the Howard Hughes Development Project.

Today’s motion has been referred to the Budget and Finance Committee.

Councilman Bill Rosendahl joined Councilman Dennis Zine to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Los Angeles Jewish Home for the Aging.

Councilman Bill Rosendahl welcomed J.R. Martinez to council chambers this morning. Martinez, a Iraqi war veteran and a former Dancing with the Stars champion, was at City Hall to discuss the need for businesses to hire vets.

“Our country needs to respect those vets that have been in harms way,” said Rosendahl during a council presenation for Martinez. “Every vet should be able to go to the front of the line to get that job, to get that training, to get that support system.”

Rosendahl also called Martinez an inspiration for overcoming adversity and achieving his dreams. Martinez suffered a burn injury during the war. Read about his story here.
