A group of environmentalists are seeking volunteers for a trash pick-up this weekend along the banks of Ballona Creek, which is located in the 11th District.
Dave Valdez, one of the event organizers, got the idea for the clean-up during a recent ride on the creek’s bike path.
“There’s a ton of styrofoam, small wrappers and plastic bottle caps [in the creek],” Valdez described, which he fears is destined for the ocean.
“When astronomers look for life on other planets, they look for water,” Valdez says of the importance of keeping our water-ways clean. “It’s the single most important ingredient for life.”
Volunteers are asked to meet at the entrance to the bike path on Centinella Ave at 9 a.m. on Saturday, November 5th. More information on the event can be found here.
