Councilmember Bill Rosendahl will participate in a special State Senate hearing on air pollution led by Senator Ted Lieu.
The State Legislature’s Select Committee on Air Quality will tackle Air Pollution Basics and the Santa Monica Airport as the subject of its first hearing which will take place this Wednesday night.
In a letter to constituents, Sen Lieu says the committee will take a closer look at air quality issues in California and whether or not laws surrounding these issues are truly serving the people of the state.
Rosendahl, a strong opponent of the Santa Monica Airport and the flight schools in operation at the facility, introduced a resolution earlier this year to shut down the airport. Rosendahl and his constituents say the airport –and the student pilots who practice there– pose a safety hazard to nearby residents. Two residential plane crashes have been linked to the flight school since 2010. In addition, studies have linked air pollution to the jets that idle and take off from the airport.
